![]() ![]() This is what breaks stuff.ĭon't preselect that RTO and use your clutch. All it takes is that one time it's not quite in and you put the horsepower to it then bam!!! The shock load is tremendous. They can just float the gears, sure I can too. I laugh at all the bobby big riggers out there who think there real professional because they don't need to use the clutch. That includes using what the clutch was designed for. Maybe go on road rangers website and they might have a video how to properly shift. up shift the transmission and just let the truck coast down the grade. Save yourself the trip to the shop cuz there is nothing wrong with it. Therefore, a 13-speed double over has to run in 11th gear and an 18-speed has to. You can't shift them like the newer ones. I learned how to drive on this same transmision and I know exactly what's happening. As soon as you do a split in neutral the transmision kinda gets lost and you gotta start all over again. You have to make all your splits in a gear not in neutral. The older model transmisions actually took a bit of skill to shift smoothly. You noticed he uses his clutch, that's how your supposed to shift!ĭouble clutch and quit pre selecting and driving like a cowboy and you'll find it will shift like its supposed too. The guy you bought it from shifts it fine cause he knows how to shift properly. If you're familiar with a manual transmission, the basic principles of the Eaton-Fuller Transmission shifterthe style used in many commercial trucks todayis similar, but more complex. It's a older RTO and your shifting it wrong. 1 Understand how the gear shift differs from a normal vehicle's shifter. Oh man! Lol! Just realized I didn't read the rest of your post. Just trying to start out without a huge truck payment Oh and I don't know of it matters but its an old style transmission without a cooler or anything in my dinosaur 88 Pete lol. At first I just figured if work around it for awhile but now it's just getting downright annoying and want to make it right.Īny suggestions would be helpful. I honestly think the guy I bought it from didnt no about the problem cuz when I test drove it I noticed he shifted with the clutch and I'm thinking that it doesn't do it then. I called the shop who rebuilt it and he thinks its just a simple air line or something and isn't worth driving 150 miles back to jersey to have them fix it. I have to go to 13th and then split it back down once I'm in gear to get 12th. To try and better explain it goes from 10th to 11th gear just fine but it won't shift from 11th to 12th. I had it swapped in coming from a Eaton fuller 8LL. Initially it was still operating as a 8speed where I had to flip the splitter and the high/low to engage the high gears. ![]() The problem is that it splits in gear perfectly both up and down but if I try to split it while in neutral u just hear it grinding and I can't get it in any gear without flipping it to the low side and back up again. I am having an issue with the high side of my Eaton Fuller RTO 14613 (used), 13 speed. Bought a truck a few months ago with an eaton 13 speed freshly rebuilt. ![]()
